Brilliant Driving Holidays in Europe

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

Driving holidays are perfect for holidaymakers who like to choose their own paths, and when it comes to Europe there are plenty of spectacular paths to pick from. Don’t feel bound to a set itinerary or travel plan, set out on a driving adventure that will make it easy for you to tailor your trip to suit your own holiday style – whether you like to rattle through attractions or you prefer a more leisurely place.

Island Circuit, Isle of Man
Enjoy a short and extremely scenic driving holiday on the Island Circuit of the Isle of Man. You’ll see wonderfully unspoilt landscapes and lovely views of Snaefell mountain and woods that run right down to the sea. Start off in Douglas and be sure to drive anti-clockwise if you want the driver to enjoy the best view of the sea. A 75 mile route, it’s an easy drive along well-maintained roads.

The Daisy Route, Denmark
A driving holiday ideal for nature lovers, the Daisy Route offers plenty of opportunities to see some of the finest sights in Denmark. A giant route made up of 14 individual drives, you can either attempt the whole 2100 odd miles, or choose which of the smaller routes to visit. Either way, you’ll be rewarded with a drive through some of Denmark’s top tourist attractions and scenic roads.

Pas de Calais, France
Set out from the Calais ferry terminus for a drive packed with pretty views and rural French towns. Take the D940 via Boulogne, the D349 to Hesdin and then north on the D928 to St Omer, before taking the N43 northwest back to Calais via Ardres and you will be rewarded with wide sandy beaches, tree-lined boulevards and many high-quality restaurants and boutiques perfect for whiling away a few hours. A 160 miles round trip, this is a picture-perfect driving tour.

The Atlantic Road, Norway
For a short but incredibly sweet route, make your way to the Atlantic Road in Norway. Only five miles long, but packing a huge punch in the scenic stakes, this is a wonderful route for seeing nature at its most majestic. However, you’ll also find yourself impressed at man’s ingenuity, as the drive is essentially a series of links between islands, and the bridges between them are really quite amazing. The route begins in Kristiansund and terminating on the island of Avero, and it can be enjoyed at all times of year.
